In 2019 Kit Bag For Kids made good progress in pursuit of our goals. We added over 20 community groups, schools and associations to our growing list of recipients and the number of willing donors continues to expand as word related to our work spreads. Interestingly, we have been approached by a number of willing donors outside of NSW, providing questions for the board as to whether we grow the charity’s collection and distribution model interstate.
Distribution of kits and equipment maintained a similar pace to 2018, with an estimated 3500 sports kits recycled as well as many pairs of boots, balls and related sports equipment. Further growth in turnover is restricted by the financial resources, primarily related to storage and postage, and volunteer hours available to us. We continue to focus on the quality of our products and a large proportion of our gear is now brand new, ensuring that it is fit for purpose in the hands of excited children. Feedback from recipients and donors involved in the program strongly suggests that we are getting this right and the product is sorely needed in many socio-economically challenged regions of Australia.
Another exciting development is the opportunity to work with the people at MALO Republic. This on-trend activewear company has launched a Buy One|Give One policy and Kit Bag For Kids is proud to be responsible for the distribution of MALO Republic kit to some of Australia’s most disadvantaged children.
The charity strengthened its financial position during the year and we would like to thank all our financial donors in 2019, particularly Westpac, whose three years of funding came to an end this year. The Board, Members and Volunteer groups have grown in 2019, and it is comforting to be able to rely on so many individuals who generously give their time to to the charity.
In 2020, we will work on improving efficiencies across our operations, sourcing high-quality kit and equipment and building our relationship with donors and recipients alike. We will remain financially astute, working economically and sourcing help and advice pro-bono. Most importantly, we are looking forward to helping more children become fully engaged in sport by supplying them with superb kit that they would otherwise miss out on.
