Newsletter 2022

In 2000, at the inaugural Laureus World Sports Awards, founding patron Nelson Mandela said: “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way little else does. it speaks to youth in a language they understand”. From people like South Africa’s Siya Kaliski, first Black Springbok captain, who came from disadvantage we can only imagine, through to role models for youth like our own Ash Barty and Adam Goodes, kids have the chance to be what they see, something never to be underestimated.

2022 was a record breaking year for Kit Bag For Kids in every respect. Our small band of committed volunteers successfully distributed 21,384 items of sportswear and equipment to 66 deserving schools, communities and projects supporting some of Australia’s most disadvantaged children. Our complete focus is on helping kids to engage in sport by providing clean, smart (and cool) kit and equipment. We have been delighted by the feedback received from many of the communities served highlighting the significant impact this small gesture can have on wellbeing, not to mention the heart warming photos of happy children wearing their new kits. Many of these stories can be found on our website and social media pages.

Our exciting partnership with MALO Republic continues to thrive. MALO’s ‘Buy One I Give One’ programme enabled us to deliver thousands of new ‘active wear’ sports kits to delighted children engaged in sports activities. The offer of donations also continue to grow unabated. We have often been overwhelmed by the generosity of the local Sydney schools, junior sports clubs and parents ‘clearing-the-decks’ of old sports gear. Additionally, our financial sponsors have maintained their critical support allowing us to operate without restrictions and to deliver sportswear country-wide free of charge.

It feels appropriate to finish this update by reiterating our heart-felt thanks to our volunteers who gave up many hours of their time in 2022 to make all this happen. We look forward to doing more together in 2023.
